Visitors gathered at the Hicks Road staging area, where vans transported them along Wood Road to the Spanishtown site on Mine Hill. Picnic tables were setup on a flat area next to the trail to the Hidalgo Cemetery. Art Boudreault, dressed as historic figure J. B. Randol, greeted the visitors. Mike Boulland signed copies of his and Art's book on New Almaden. Lunch, appropriately, was tacos, provided by Nancy Mapes. Young Mexican dancers provided entertainment. Leonard Espinosa, whose father was a miner in New Almaden, told stories about the miners' lives. Terri Williams unveiled the new interpretive sign on Spanishtown.
